Fighting Climate Change From Eugene Oregon
In Eugene Oregon we are dedicated to fighting climate change and promoting environmental justice. We believe that a strong democracy supported by an informed citizenry and free and fair elections is a necessary foundation for environmental change.
An Urgent Realization
After decades practicing conservation easement, land use, and real estate law, Jim Olmsted came to a clear conclusion: the most urgent challenges facing society cannot be solved in isolation. Environmental protection, climate action, and social stability all depend on a functioning democracy—one in which institutions work, elections are fair, and citizens have meaningful opportunities to participate.
Based in Eugene, Oregon, Olmsted spent his legal career working at the intersection of land, policy, and public trust. Over time, that work revealed a deeper truth: without democratic accountability, even the strongest environmental laws and conservation tools can be weakened, ignored, or dismantled. That realization led him to co-found Democracy4All (D4A), a nonpartisan nonprofit dedicated to strengthening democracy as the foundation for collective action.
Through both his legal work and his leadership at D4A, Olmsted has seen how these issues are inseparably connected:
D4A's Goal
Our goal is not partisanship, but resilience: a democratic system capable of confronting climate change, preserving natural landscapes, defending social safety nets, and sustaining a fair and livable society. Democracy is not just a political ideal—it is the infrastructure that makes meaningful progress possible.
A Call to Acton
Democracy4All was created to help people understand these connections and to provide practical, educational resources that support civic participation. The organization’s work focuses on empowering individuals to engage with their elected officials, stay informed about democratic processes, and advocate for policies that protect both people and the planet. To help people take immediate action by contacting their elected officials Jim Olmsted and D4A have created a comprehensive and easy to use Guide To Contacting Elected Officials.
